This is an optocoupler I2C board designed as a remote 8-input expander for the I2C bus, based on the PCF8574. It is ideal as an isolation input expander for the I2C bus, and is compatible with most microcontrollers operating in the 3.0V to 5.5V range.

The PCF8574 is the I2C bus expander chip that communicates with the microcontroller and reads the status of input voltages from optocouplers. It supports a 100kHz bus frequency and can be connected to I2C ports on microcontrollers that support 3.0V to 5.5V. Normally, the I2C bus requires pull-up resistors for the SDA and SCL lines. This board includes pull-up resistors and jumpers to enable or disable them as needed.

The board features an interrupt output signal, allowing the microcontroller to be notified of incoming voltage on its inputs. The interrupt pin is open-drain, so it requires a pull-up resistor, which is provided on the board and can be enabled or disabled using a jumper.

There are 8 optocouplers for the input voltages. Each input supports high-level logic ranging from 3.0Vdc to 30Vdc. The inputs can accept voltages higher than 30Vdc with the addition of external resistors.

The board is addressable via 3 jumpers, allowing for up to 8 different addresses. This means that up to 8 boards can be connected on the same bus. Additionally, up to 16 boards can be connected on the same bus, as each board has a unique address. You can connect 8 boards of the PCF8574 and 8 boards of the PCF8574A on the same bus since the PCF8574 and PCF8574A have different addresses.

The board includes inverse polarity protection circuits to prevent damage from incorrect connections. An LED indicator is also included to show the status of the power supply input voltage.

Designed for a compact form factor, the PCB measures 28x81.5mm.

The I2C-IN830S and I2C-IN830SA models differ only in the I2C chip they use, and therefore also in their slave addresses. These models can replace the EI2C-9AG and EI2C-9AGA, respectively.

To prevent damage to the board, do not plug or unplug I2C cables while the power supply is on. Always turn off the power supply before plugging or unplugging I2C cables on the board.
